World's Worst Lawyer (And Insurrectionist!) Still Trying To Overturn Election
Paul Davis, who was at the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, has some, um, novel ideas on Donald Trump and who should be running the nation now. |
If so, it's probably a bad idea to go with one Paul M. Davis of Texas.
Until recently, he was associate counsel for Goosehead Insurance in Texas. That is until January 7. Apparently, Goosehead figures a lawyer who participated in the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capital might not be the best legal presentation for them.
Goosehead would be right on this score.
As if Goosehead Insurance needed any more assurance they made the right call by firing Davis, Davis himself has filed a lawsuit in an attempt to get rid of Joe Biden as president and, well, it gets pretty convoluted from there.
The whole story on the lawsuit appeared recently in the publication Law and Crime, which gives us all kinds of news about, well, law and crime cases.
If you suspect the Law and Crime article on Paul M. Davis' lawsuit is dry, boring legal stuff, think again. It is quite the read. However, I'll summarize parts of the case the best I can here.
To start, here's part of a summary of the filings from Law and Crime:
"Davis's lawsuit asserted that all members of the Congress were not legally seated and should, therefore, be enjoined from serving in government 'forever'. In a subsequent filing, David referenced The Lord of the Rings and sought to have the court appoint a group of 'stewards' from the cabinet of former President Donald Trump to run most of the government from the White House.
According to the complaint, that should occur after the court orders the Secret Service to escort Joe Biden and his wife out of the executive residence."
I'm sure you're asking why all this is possible. Well, Davis explains it in his lawsuit - I think. We'll take a stab at it.
A number of states changed election laws during Covid 19 to make it easier and safer for people to cast ballots. Somehow, these changes "deprived every single U.S. citizen, including Plaintiffs, of their sacrosanct Constitutional right to participate in the democratic election."
I'm not sure how making voting easier deprives us of the right to vote, but I guess I don't have the exquisite legal mind Davis has.
Davis doesn't have quite the powerful mind for history, though. His court papers claim voting has been "the most basic right guaranteed to every American since the founding of the Republic."
Never mind women weren't granted the right to vote until 1920. Black men didn't have the right to vote until 1870. Even then, Jim Crow laws made if pretty much impossible for Blacks to vote until the Civil Rights Act was passed in 1965.
Then again, strong turnout among Black voters helped Biden win the presidency, and helped change the makeup of Congress to a barely Democratic controlled one. Maybe Davis' real problem is that Black people voted, but it's hard to tell from his court filings.
Yet, Davis's court papers say that making it easier for Blacks and Latinos to vote in 2020 disenfranchised these very groups. Yeah, I'm really confused, too.
Then Davis gives some sort of analysis comparing the 2020 election to J.R.R. Tolkein's "Lord Of The Rings" but he loses me entirely.
It gets worse, believe it or not. As Law and Crime explains, Davis's lawsuit says the "current 'United States federal government' has, through 'repeated injuries and usurpations' taken tyrannical control of - you guessed it - the United States federal government."
Kind of a "green is not green because it's green" type of argument, huh?
As Law and Crime reminds us about Davis' comparison with his crazy idea for a United States "steward,"the "steward" of Gondor, Denethor, went crazy, set himself on fire, and jumped off a massive cliff to his death while he was engulfed in flames.
Kind of what Davis is figuratively doing to himself.
In a follow up article, Law and Crime reports that Davis has filed more court papers. In them, he "complained about a sewage backup at his home, sleep deprivation and being painted as an 'extreme lunatic.'"
Um, if the shoe fits....
Unfortunately, I fear we haven't heard the last from Davis yet, so stay tuned!
