What's Behind The Mirror? In One Case, A Whole Other Apartment!

This woman in New York found an entire apartment
hidden behind her bathroom mirror in a New York City
building.
When I bought my house 14 years ago, I was a bit mystified because there either isn't an attic or no access to it.

There has to be at least a crawlspace above the ceilings, but no way to get there. I've occasionally been tempted to cut a hole in the ceiling, maybe inside a closet, and take a peek, but so far I haven't had the guts.

Maybe because there was so many other mysteries here. Some of them scary. Each room has multiple electrical outlets. Probably a legacy of a pot growing business back in the day.

Meanwhile, in the basement, you can still see the marks on the floor joists where a guy who was renting a room here used a bicycle lock cord to hang himself.  A cop told me the man who committed suicide had been kicked out of his own house because he cheated on his wife.

He moved in here, became despondent because his wife wouldn't take him back, the cop who investigated later told me.  One night, he drank a six pack of Bud pounders and hanged himself. This was not disclosed at the time I bought the house.

I used to hear noises in the basement, but one night I sat beneath the place where the guy hanged himself. A drank a Bud pounder as an offering - ugh it tasted awful - but I think that sealed a peace treaty with the ghost. No more noises.

I'm bringing all this up because there's a woman in New York who's a lot braver than I am.  She kept feeling a cold draft in her bathroom, strong enough to move her hair as if in a light breeze.

The woman, Samantha Hartsoe, removed her bathroom mirror and found basically a secret apartment behind the mirror.

She crawled through the mirror opening into the secret apartment and had a look see. She recorded the adventure on her TikTok page.

The apartment looked long-abandoned, with lots of it in disrepair and trash bags strewn about.  However, it might not be such a secret apartment. Hartsoe found a water bottle, which made her wonder if the landlord was renovating it for a tenant.

Plus, she was able to exit the apartment through a door into a building hallway she was familiar with and frequently used. She just never thought anything of the door.

Still, the apartment is a mystery. Even the building managers don't know really know anything about it.

To Hartoe's relief, she doesn't think anybody is living there, since the toilet and bathtub and other fixtures are torn out.

Still, you never know. Maybe it's haunted.

Here's her video:
